At George V. Arth and Son, we are proud to offer our customers complete automotive collision repair and paint services, on both foreign and domestic models. We've been family owned and operated since 1877 and are conveniently located in downtown Oakland — just one block from Lake Merritt BART and AC Transit lines.
Our History
For over 130 years, we've been offering our customers quality, honest service. Our business began as a small blacksmith shop specializing in the repair and painting of horse drawn carriages. As motorized vehicles began to appear on our city streets, our shop adapted to the new technology. We've been at it ever since.
Our Service
Many of our local competitors are quick to point out their 15, 20 or even 30 years of service to the East Bay community. That's a great thing to promote, but our shop has over 100 years of experience on them. We've witnessed the entire evolution of the automobile and have adapted our business to keep up with the times. We understand your car inside and out and can repair it to its original manufacturer specifications.
As we mentioned above, our business specializes in collision repair and painting of both foreign and domestic vehicles. Our technicians are ASE and I-CAR Gold certified and our painters are PPG certified. We work directly with all major insurance companies and are a Direct Repair facility, so we encourage you to tell your insurance agent that you'd like to bring your car to our shop. We welcome fleet work and custom jobs!

We are a Better Business Bureau Accredited business and have been since 1964. We are proud of our A+ rating from the BBB. We're also members of the California Autobody Association and the Oakland Rotary Club.

Our shop hours are 7:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. We're closed on all major US holidays. We gladly accept cash and all major credit cards as payment, but are unfortunately unable to accept personal checks.
